Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) has an illustrious legacy, not only in academics but also in the realm of sports.
With banners high and swords in hand, AdDU prevailed over 17 other schools in 2023's Davao Association of Catholic Schools (DACS) Sportsfest last January 21-28, bagging 83 trophies over 10 sporting events.
The rhythmic and thunderous banging of the drums, coupled with the spirited and signature chant got more deafening as the Ateneo Blue Knights Pep Squad emerged as the champion in the cheerdance competition, cutting short the supposed two-peat streak of the UIC High Pep Squad.
With showstopping grace, AdDU took the dance floor as they snatched the championship title and second place in both Latin America and Modern Standard categories, leaving the Holy Cross of Agdao (HCA) in third place in the Latin America category. These graceful athletes exerted a certain power, strength, and elegance that no other could pull off and showed that the magic of the art form never fails to spellbind us once more.
History repeats itself as the volleyball men and women completed their latest feats by winning the men's and women's volleyball championships to extend the team's streak as the defending champions.
The basketball men came out victorious for both 5×5 and 3×3, while the basketball women finished off second place in 5×5 and third place in 3×3.
The badminton team barged into the winning column after an aggressive display that lifted the squad well above one's reach, bagging 3 golds for doubles and singles A and B in the women's division and 2 golds for single A and doubles in men's division.
The table tennis team reigned supreme in men's doubles while finishing second place in doubles and single in the women's division.
Successfully staying in the top three, the chess team held their ground against San Pedro College (SPC), securing the gold medals in both men's and women's and third-place victories.
Entering the competition as the defending champions, the football and futsal teams swept the entire competition and finished not only as back-to-back champions but also ended up with undefeated records.
The unconquered swimming team was again on the verge of snaring their consecutive championship after remaining atop the titles, snagging 30 golds, 18 silvers, and 9 bronzes.
The taekwondo team concluded their quest by reaping 3 golds in poomsae category B, featherweight, and welterweight, respectively.
Through the excellence shown in the record-setting feats that each has exhibited and accomplished in their respective fields, Ateneans showcased their unshakable determination and relentless pursuit of greater heights. Ateneans have already secured their march towards the Davao City Athletic Association (DCAA) Meet on February 6-10, 2023.
