February 20, 2023—Salamanca Tigers brought home the championship in AdDU-SHS Ignite’s Valorant Tournament as they blasted through Barcelona, 2-1, with aggressive plays.
Among 8 clusters, the Salamanca Tigers and Barcelona Lions were the ones left to compete for the title of champions in this year’s Valorant tournament, determined in a best-of-three match.
Salamanca scored a close 2-1 victory with 13-9 (W), 15-13 (L), and 13-6 (W).
Duelists ysamad and sadboi aim sethh breached their way into the defenders' territory, individually scoring 75 and 59 kills across all three games from aggressive pushes.
“To be perfectly frank, neither my team nor I came into the tournament with any predetermined strategies or preparations. Admittedly, I have no idea what I'm doing, but I play aggressively anyway. I simply cruise the area, and if I happen upon an enemy, I will do my best to eliminate as many as I can,” Gabriel Mola, Salamanca’s team captain, said.
Ysamad as Jett led the defense in the final match at Icebox as they pressured Barcelona with the Operator sniper and delayed the enemy push into the site, even snatching a quadra kill on the ninth round.
To counter Salamanca’s offensive playstyle, Barcelona went for a defense-based team, garnering them consecutive wins before Salamanca reclaimed a round. The same strategy also earned them the second match’s win.
Barcelona’s dekto snatched a total of 60 kills throughout the three matches as a Controller playing Astra or Viper, followed by ALB Exentrik with 49 kills.
“They were the first team to derail our winning streak, and they also happened to be the first team that made us drop a map,” Gabriel stated. “[But] we just played it like any competitive game. We were always enthusiastic throughout the entire tournament, playing to have fun rather than worrying about results.”
“We threw many rounds in the second map, which led to our loss, but we came back strong in the third map, and from then on, we avoided repeating the error that cost us the game in the second,” he added.
The final cluster standings are as goes: Salamanca hailed as the champion, Barcelona as the first runner-up, and Rome and Paris as the third to fourth runner-ups, respectively.
