An AFP-PNP Press Conference was held at The Royal Mandaya Hotel last April 19, 2023, where the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines (CAAP) in Davao talked about the heightening of the security protocols in the Davao International Airport to prevent unauthorized entry of people.
This was due to a commotion that was said to occur on October 15, 2022, where a vlogger was said to have entered the airport with a fake identification card and boarding pass.
The vlogger was able to enter the airport by pretending to be an airline employee.
The Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Davao (CAAP-Davao) said, "We take such breaches in airport security very seriously and have taken immediate action to ensure that this does not happen again."
The manager of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Davao (CAAP-Davao), Rex Obcena, has also stated that they have added another level of security at the Davao International Airport (DIA), where the security officers would properly check the passengers' boarding passes and their government-issued IDs.
“Right now, naa ta’y mga target hardening of security measures (we have heightened the security measures inside),” Rex Obcena, manager of the Civil Aviation Authority of the Philippines in Davao (CAAP-Davao), said during the press conference.
Obcena also stated that these security measures would be strongly implemented on the 2nd floor to the boarding area so that only passengers are allowed.
“The update is that the airline filed a case, and it’s an ongoing case, and also her friend [working in the airline] was also offloaded,” Obcena mentioned.
However, if there are instances where they would allow non-passengers to stay around the area, like having a dignitary aboard, they would be giving them a stick-on pass.
Regarding the vlogger who was involved in the incident, they will reportedly be facing charges for using a fake airline ID, which violates Articles 171 and 172 of the Republic Act of the Philippines.
