August 11, 2023—The Ateneo Senior High Orientation Program (ASHOP) for School Year 2023-2024 officially starts this school year with a bang through a culmination program conducted in the Senior High School's (SHS) gymnasium attended by the Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) SHS Community.
Before proceeding to the Culmination program, the gym hosted a Mass for the Feast of the Assumption in honor of the University's Patron, the Blessed Virgin Mary.
The University's very own Fr. Jboy presided over the mass, preaching that Ateneans should be consistent as the Blessed Mother in their obedience and devotion to God and others and to strive to persevere in adversities and pains in life.
Although the mass went overtime, the SHS students still vibrantly cheered for their respective Clusters for this year's Christ The King (CTK) Fiesta, Ignite, and Science and Technology Week as it is being called and announced.
Contributing to the heightening energy of the audience were the lively performances of the ASHOP Facilitators, the Ateneo Blue Belles and Blue Band, The Voices, and LIAM, commencing the finality of the week-long ASHOP program.
The ASHOP culmination was hosted by Sir Ken Briones of the HUMSS strand and Ms. Jocel Fernandez, an A-Speak member from 12-De Fontoura.
The entirety of the administration and staff of School Year 2023-2024 were officially introduced onstage during the event. Sir Rodolfo Daguio Jr. and Ma'am Aujefel Amor Lee, the Assistant Directors for Administration and Academics, respectively, used the occasion to further remind the students of their responsibilities as members of the SHS community.
During Sir Daguio's speech, he restated Fr. Jboy's message and stressed the importance of persevering amidst suffering amongst the students, for nothing rewarding can be achieved quickly.
Ma'am Aujefel Amor Lee thanked the students for their active participation in the ASHOP program and informed them that AdDU-SHS would participate in full face-to-face classes with enhanced technology learning materials.
A statement reinforced by Fr. Jboy during the Dive Into Ateneo (DIVA) forum, in which the trio answered questions submitted by the students before the event.
Fr. Jboy stated, "Our way of teaching is not the same as before the pandemic; we have evolved…Ateneo de Davao University wants to advance, not to regress."
Hence the continued use of Hurtado, through the activities and instructions uploaded in the courseware, students no longer need to purchase books.
Sir Rafael Ubaldo, the Prefect of Discipline, reminded the students that the Prefect would start giving violations the following week. He also stated that on August 16, a haircut and hair color inspection will begin.
The SHS Buwan ng Wika 2023 officially opened during the culmination, lasting from August 11-25. With the theme: Filipino at mga Katutubong Wika: Wika ng Kapayapaan, Seguridad, at Inklusibong Pagpapatupad ng Katarungang Panlipunan.
Ending the program was a dance performance by the administration and staff, following a community singing of AdDU-SHS's iconic anthem, Seasons of Love.
