Photo captured by: Carmel Roserg Deligos Ateneo de Davao University (AdDU) Senior High School (SHS) celebrated World Teachers Day on October 5, 2023, in a program held at the University's gymnasium.
The event featured lively performances and activities with Mary Joyce Cimafranca and Marianne Kate Lucero from The Ateneo Society of Public Speakers (A-speak) as masters of ceremony.
Commencing the event was the energetic hip-hop performance of Liga ng mga Atenistang Mananayaw (LIAM), which energized the spirits of teachers and students.
The appointed officers for the Commission on Elections (COMELEC), Pulsong Atenista Student Government (PASG), and the recently elected Council of Club Members were proclaimed during the event.
The victors of the PASG elections past September 12, 2023, were announced during the event; all appointed and elected members had their oath-taking ceremony on stage afterward. Both the proclamation and oath-taking were facilitated by Sir Ken Lloyd Briones.
In addition to the performance of talents, the Masisinig na Kabataang Tagapagtaguyod ng Kultura (MASKARA) performed two intermission numbers to showcase the culture, diversity, and vibrant expression of Philippine culture.
The Assistant Director for Academics, Ma'am Aujefel Amor Y. Lee, highlighted in her opening address the history of World Teachers' Day and the role of teachers in the community. "We keep doing it because we care for you, our dear learners." Ma'am. Lee's take on why they keep doing what they do despite it being hard work.
Games such as Pinoy Henyo, Mix. Q&A and Minute to Win It highlighted the event; the clusters were grouped into four teams with two sets per team. Team 1: Monsterat and Pamplona, Team 2: Barcelona and Salamanca, Team 3: Paris and Manresa, and Team 4: Rome and Jerusalem.
In Pinoy Henyo, all teachers showed competence, wit, and exhilaration. However, there was a tie among the teams, Team 1 and Team 4, scoring 1 point each.
In the Q&A portion, the teachers showed intellect with a bit of wit. However, out of all the contestants, Sir Marc Lloyd Ingan-eng rose to victor and took home the crown to his cluster, Jerusalem.
While preparing for the next game, The Ateneo Filmmakers Society (AFS ) presented a documentary about the importance of teachers in students' lives, envisioning a life devoid of teachers, which caused confusion and a realization that teachers play a significant role in the classroom and that ideas and intellect would be challenging without teachers. It also showed testimonies of teachers about coping with stress, teaching, and more.
"Teachers are not only educators but also parents, friends who will guide us throughout our lives." Said the Pamplona representative on the documentary.
In the next game, Minute to Win It, the teachers showed their talents in games that showed their sporty side; Team 1 won the first and second rounds, while in the third round, teams 1 and 3 emerged victors with a tie.
After the activities, a serenade of students to teachers, the Non-teaching Personnel (NTP) singers sang Filipino-composed songs like Araw-Araw by Ben&Ben and Ipanumpa ko by Oh! Caraga.
The Blue Band sang Liwanag sa Dilim and Mapa, composed by Rivermaya and SB19, respectively, at the near end of the event when students gave their respective teachers gifts and tokens.
The event ended with closing remarks from the Director for Formation, Fr. Jessel "Jboy" Gerard M. Gonzales, S.J... He had a short yet meaningful speech that required the participation of teachers and students.
"You inspire me! You motivate me! You give me a future! Happy teachers' day!" the crowd cheered in admiration for their teachers as Fr. Jboy directed them during his closing remarks.
As a tradition, the event was closed with a sing-along of Seasons of Love to signify always love, love, love.
