On the morning of January 23, 2024, at the AdDU-SHS gymnasium, the Accountancy, Business, and Management (ABM) strand held its strand day to feature and celebrate its uniqueness and unification among other strands with the theme: Untying Discord, Uniting Humanities, Business and Science, to Navigate the VUCA World.
Originally scheduled to occur on the 17th of January this year, the ABM strand day has been long awaited after unforeseen setbacks.
The event commenced with Chloe Constantino and Francis Gesulga as hosts from the Ateneo Society of Speakers (A-Speak). For the opening salvo, selected ABM students showcased their impressive dance moves that kicked the event off to a good start.
After the performance, the Assistant Director for Academics, Ma'am Aujefel Amor Y. Lee, delivered her opening remarks, highlighting the importance of the theme and the student's role to reflect on it today and always.
The day's first activity was the Bizz Buzz challenge, which showed the pitching skills and styles of grade 12 students. The candidates were screened through an elimination round where only three sections were selected; the three finalists were Arrowsmith, Anchieta, and Andlauer.
Each section was given a unique product with just a few minutes to prepare a pitch. Arrowsmith advertised a two-way electric fan, Anchieta advertised a perfume that smelled like durian, and Andlauer announced free-size shoes.
After the funny yet insightful activity, Sir Mark Daniel Villanueva and Kyle Go sang Mahika by Adie, Janine Berdin and Until I Found You by Stephen Sanchez. Their performance was a hit, bringing "kilig" vibes throughout the crowd.
Sir Karl Macapagal then Introduced the guest speaker, Mr. Rañer Areñaz. Mr. Areñaz is an auditor, educator, businessman, and CPA. He made significant contributions to the accounting community as a tenured former chair of professional development at the Philippine Institute of Certified Public Accountants (PICPA) in 2022.
In his career talk, Mr. Areñaz highlighted the importance of support and having and being a user-friendly friend positively. He also added that there's always time for everything; it is just essential to collaborate with people effectively and productively to achieve it.
To end his talk, Mr. Areñaz stated, "Don't change your plan when circumstances are changing, just change your strategy." "Learn how to collaborate; know what you don't know." He added.
After the empowering talk by Mr. Rañer Areñaz, Sir Franklin Anota, Jr performed captivating magic tricks that caught the audience's amazement.
