With Ateneo de Davao University Senior High School (ADDU-SHS) students gradually trickling back into face-to-face classes, the Ateneo Filmmakers Society (AFS) has to put its best foot forward as it reintroduces itself once again the annual film fair production. In celebration of Christ the King (CTK) Fiesta, the AFS presents its passion and purpose and highlights the life and journey of a diverse set of individuals through a web anthology series with "Dilaab sa Paglaom."
It has been a tradition of AFS to conduct a film fair to showcase films that unveil the dawn of new ideas and beginnings. With hopes of inspiring student directors to start their journey in the world of film, AFS Film Fair will be the tool for these aspiring filmmakers to step up and let their beginnings be heard. From coming-of-age comedies such as Kahidlaw to stirring dramas like Nawawalang Hiraya, the viewers can find valuable treasures that will widen their eyes to more cinematic horizons—whether they relate to, entertain, or deepen their perspectives. The AFS will open its doors from November 25 to December 2, 2022, in an online film exhibition across its social media platforms to audiences who yearned for an exhilarating journey across many storied experiences. These films aim to branch out and demonstrate various facets of human life.
Nawawalang Hiraya (November 25)
Behind every novel, song, poem, sculpture, and painting is an artist to bring their innermost magic to life. And they say passion and motivation go hand in hand when creating art; however, is it possible to carry this through when neither desire nor motivation is present?
Nawawalang Hiraya tells the story of a prominent artist's grandson tasked with completing an unfinished piece of art. However, complications arise when the protagonist's struggles in life start to catch up with them. As the film showcases the works of balancing one's life, we will answer the question—are you willing to set aside your dreams to keep up with reality?
Inosente (November 28)
Inosente tells a story of a teenager who finds it difficult to talk to his friends about his troubles after receiving a message that would forever alter his life. To stories as such, it may help us imagine how it may look to walk in their shoes; or if we have walked in their shoes. Perhaps we can relate to the character's story or find similarities that some of us struggle with or thrive on.
Kaleydoskopo (November 30)
There are two types of individuals in this world—those who engage and those who wish to escape. At one time or another, the profound urge to escape reality for a certain amount of time has crossed our minds. Kaleydoskopo narrates the life of a young aspiring artist who is considering passing up on a scholarship offered by their desired college. As the protagonist decides, they are brought to light a new website gaining popularity online. Despite their skepticism, the protagonist explores the newfound website—leading them to discover another version of themself.
As you peek into the wonders, Kaleydoskopo has in store, be open, however cautious of the depths this film offers. Will you engage in the unknown or remain in your reality forever?
Kahidlaw (December 4)
Teenager. Summer. College. Do these words spark your interest? If so, this film is for you! Presenting Kahidlaw by Secret Productions, it tells a story about a 30-day vlog of a teenager as summer takes place. Preparing for college, she practices cooking before leaving her home. But who knows what lies ahead within the vlog? With the change and adjustments overflowing her life, Kahidlaw will show us how we will touch on the core of her life. This film may touch your heart too. With a cinematic sparkle together, we will look into how the film's story could be your story too.
Rich in emphasizing self-reflection, AFS Film Fair's massive impact on the AdDU-SHS community will strengthen the values and morals of each student that comes to watch their films. Taking more risks than ever, AFS is thrilled to welcome curious hearts and minds through reiterating patterned experiences brought about by this strange period.
